FWCS - Assistant to the Superintendent for Strategic Initiatives
Laura Cain is the Assistant to the Superintendent for Strategic Initiatives for Fort Wayne Community Schools, overseeing the Balanced Scorecard and working closely with district administrators on data management and analysis and implementing the Standards for Professional Learning with Learning Forward. She also managed the district's teacher evaluation pilot, in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Education. Currently, the district has a $40 million dollar Teacher Incentive Fund grant that she oversees which focuses on developing a human capital management system with a focus on recruiting, retaining and compensating teachers and administrators. Other areas of oversight consist of Professional Learning including a $1.5 million dollar Title II grant, the district assessment system, and school and department improvement planning.
She joined Fort Wayne Community Schools in 2007 as the Project Manager overseeing the development of the Balanced Scorecard, a tool adapted from the business world to ensure strategic progress and growth. She works closely with the Board of School Trustees to make sure the measures set on the Balanced Scorecard reflect the goals of the district.
She received her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University. Prior to this degree, she holds an Educational Specialist degree (ABD) in Educational Leadership, a Master of Arts degree in Secondary Education Administration and Supervision, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
