The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees on Monday, Nov. 8, approved hiring Mitch Sheppard as the District’s new Director of Philanthropy.

She joins FWCS after working for 27 years with the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department, most recently as the Deputy Director overseeing the Foellinger Theatre, Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory and Community Outreach. Sheppard previously served as a member of the FWCS Board of School Trustees from 2007-2010.

As Directory of Philanthropy, she will be responsible for financial oversight, fiduciary management and strategic efforts of philanthropic fund raising for the Fort Wayne Community Schools Foundation.

Sheppard received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications from Tri-State University (now Trine University) and completed an executive development program for parks and recreation department professionals at Indiana University.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
